Air Swimming

Air Swimming

Air Swimming, is a type of sporting distraction that was created by Gregory Baskwell and Nicholas Schauer, of North Carolina State University. The first year that this began was during the 2010-2011 school year. The goal of this newly formed sport is to distract the opposing team while free throws are being shot. The air swimmers are hoisted up by fans behind the basket so that the opposing player sees them as he is trying to shoot.

The sport grew in popularity during the college basketball season, but the sport began as a form of celebration during the football season. Baskwell and Schauer would get lifted up whenever the Wolfpack scored and they would air swim as a celebration.
