Gonzaga (board game)

Gonzaga (board game)

Gonzaga is a German-style board game published by Da Vinci Games played on a hex based map of Europe. Players draw cards to determine what shape (a set of 3 or 4 connected hexes) they can place on the map. They must then chose which country to place that set of hexes (called a fief) in, together with choosing to cover, only harbours but at least one harbour, only castled (or only empty hexes), or 'a marriage' when they must cover at least one castle and one harbour. You cannot pick the same country twice in a row You cannot pick the same thing to cover twice in a row You can place outside your selected country as long as you have at least one hex from the selected country under your fief when you place it. Players covering harbours go first, covering castles go second and marriages go last.

Players also have 6 rings that they can either spend to go place first - or can be used as an alternate move if they picked the marriage option this turn.

Players score 15 points for sets of harbours, and if they are part of their hidden agenda points for claiming each of the appropriate castles. They also score 3 points for each castle or harbour in an active region, and 1 for each castle or harbour from inactive regions. They also score 15 points for having the most connected fiefs at game end. The hidden agenda can score up to 35 points based on the number of castles.
