BigTip is a deals marketplace site operating in the United States.
BigTip was founded in 2010 by former Yahoo! executive Matt Rowlen.
Business model
Unlike deal-of-the-day sites like Groupon or LivingSocial, which offer only one coupon in each market, BigTip offers a searchable database of deals from local merchants nationwide. This includes suburban areas typically underserved by deal of the day sites that cater to urban markets.
Instead of relying on a sales force to find and implement deals with merchants, BigTip allows businesses to self-manage and optimize their promotions.
Many of the deals on BigTip are “last minute deals,” such as coupons for meals valid the day they are sold. An upcoming mobile application will allow customers to find these deals on their phones for nearby local businesses.
Funding
BigTip has raised venture capital according to its SEC filings.
