Alex Makhonin is an English mixed martial artist who competes in the Middleweight Division and is known for a high tempo and powerful ground and pound game. He has a 9-1 professional record. Since suffering his only professional defeat in 2008, Makhonin has put together a 8 fight winning streak over the course of two and a half years and holds a notable victory over UFC veteran Xavier Foupa-Pokam. He is currently signed with BAMMA.
BAMMA Debut
Alex made his BAMMA debut against Xavier Foupa-Pokam, one of the biggest names in European MMA, having fought a variety of big names in different weight classes and promotions. Early on in the fight Makhonin got stunned by a short powerful hook from Xavier but was able to survive the brief onslaught of strikes, and managed to come on strong himself in the closing moments of the first round. At the start of the second, Makhonin exchanged on the feet until shooting and securing a takedown midway through. From there he was able to get full mount and dish out some brutal ground and pound to force the referee to bring a halt to the bout with just over ten seconds remaining in round two.
